Big changes to follow the roll out of the National Disability Insurance Scheme

In less than 8 months the National Disability Insurance Scheme will be rolled out across the Tropical North with sweeping changes to the way services are delivered.

An estimated 1700 new jobs will be created across TNQ as a result and local organisations are making significant changes to their operations to prepare for the introduction of the NDIS on July 1 next year.

Worklink's operations manager Rebecca Cotton said the Cairns organisation – celebrating its 21st anniversary this year – was upskilling its staff and adapting its business model.

"The reform to the disability sector within the NDIS is an exciting opportunity for Worklink and the FNQ region as it provides supports based on choice and control for people and will greatly increase the range of services that are available to someone who faces significant challenges to their everyday life," she said.

"Worklink is supporting the region by promoting future opportunities to current jobseekers as well as launching new services which we anticipate will grow our workforce and provide more support to people within the region."
