North Queensland brewers collaborate to make the ultimate tropical beer
Craft brewers from Cairns, Port Douglas and Townsville have combined their knowledge and skills to develop a beer that’s characteristic of the tropics.
Hemingway’s Breweries, Barrier Reef Brewing Co, Macalister’s Brewing Company, Coral Sea Brewing, and Townsville Brewery are involved in the project, which is part of the region’s first every Craft Beer Festival being held next month.
Hemingway’s Breweries’ CEO and co-founder Tony Fyfe said workshops were held to develop the characteristics and flavour of the collaborative beer.
“We cannot give away the exact components of what our Festival beer will comprise," he said.
"But we do know that it will reflect the region’s tropical climate and like all local brews, will have its own colourful story to tell.”
The festival beer will be available for a taste test when the craft beer event kicks off on Saturday, 11th May at Hemingway’s Brewery in Cairns.
Mr Fyfe said it will be an opportunity for local craft beer enthusiasts to toast the creativity and success of the region’s craft beer.
“Our event really is an open invitation to anyone and everyone who wants to celebrate the industry’s meteoric rise, learn about the art of craft beer making from the experts and most importantly, have some fun," he said.
“This is our chance, as brewing companies, to show off and share the benefits of craft beer as a beverage, which is not just grounded in taste, but that fresh is best.”
Entry to event is free and craft beers can be sampled for $4 for a 200ml size or $8 for 425ml.
There’ll also be food stations with beer pairings, beer appreciation tours and entertainment.
