UPDATE: Cairns claims world record for huge busking performance!

UPDATE Friday 25/8/17: Take a bow Cairns - we just broke the world record for busking!

A remarkable 412 buskers were recorded at tonight's Busk At Dusk event staged on the Esplanade, just breaking the previous record of 388 buskers in Brisbane.

Local musicians, actors, dancers, jugglers, school groups, community groups and sports teams all joined as one to claim the Guinness World Record.

Organised by CQU, the uni's Creative Arts lecturer Rob Woodward earlier told TropicNow that registrations had "risen by the minute", with high hopes held all week that Cairns would "smash" Brisbane's record.

EARLIER THIS WEEK: Brisbane's mark is 388 performers with Mr Woodward saying organisers were "very excited" about TNQ's chances of breaking the record.

"Cairns is such a talented city and here is our chance to prove it," he said.

"We are encouraging people to get involved in any way. It is open to people of all ages and we just want you there performing.

"It is going to be a wild and colourful night. Fogarty Park and the western and eastern events lawns will be packed with buskers.

"If you play anything, even as simple as a ukulele or kazoo, come on down to be a part of this community event.

"Even if you don't think you have any talents, you can come along and be a human statue."

Busk at Dusk will be held from 5.30pm to 6.30pm on Friday and has been organised to highlight the opportunities available to local entertainers through the university's new Bachelor of Creative Arts degree, which Mr Woodward described as a "major change" for Cairns.
