Babinda Boulders set to re-open after a makeover

Popular swimming spot Babinda Boulders will be fully open again in November, just in time to provide a safe cooling off spot during the stinger season.

And included in the revamp is all-abilities access to the cool waters.

Much of the Boulders has been closed to the public for a major upgrade including a ramp for wheelchair access, more car and bus parks, a new lookout and improved paths and picnic area.

The $1.5 million makeover is part of the Works For Queensland program and has to be finished by November 30.

The new ramp will give wheelchair access to the Boulders, and is being built next to the existing stairs.

The area is managed by the Cairns Regional Council. A council spokesperson said November 30 was the deadline but it may be completed sooner.

For those looking for a sweet swimming spot this summer, Babinda Boulders is about 6kms from the town of Babinda, a short drive to the south of Cairns.
