Cairns foodies spoilt for choice this Bastille Day

Three of our favourite restaurants are serving up some fine French fare to celebrate this year's Bastille Day.

Foodies are spoilt for choice with C'est Bon, Mama Coco and Ochre hosting special Bastille Day events with incredible menus.

1. C'EST BON

Start with a glass of French champagne, followed by freshly baked baguette and a starter of chilled ocean trout served with goat's cheese cream, roasted beetroot lemon asparagus and a mini brioche.

While being entertained by C'est Bon's famous local can-can dancers and the acclaimed singer Andrea Mullens, you'll move on to shell roasted lobster medallions with market vegetables, aromatic herb salad accompanied by rich brandy sauce.

Next up, dine on venison-au-vin with crispy bacon, baked potato, persillade mushroom, charred onion and vinegared artichokes.

And to finish off? Luxuriate with pistachio macaroon, raspberry ganache and peach ice cream. Oui oui!

C'est Bon's Bastille Day lunch is on Saturday July 14 from midday - call 4051 4488 to reserve your table.

2. OCHRE RESTAURANT

This one is going to be special. A 5-course degustation menu with the Ochre team partnering with Chaine des Rotisseurs to present this Bastille Day dinner.

Chaine des Rotisseurs is an International Association of Gastronomy founded in Paris in 1950. As Ochre's Craig Squire explains: "This dinner is an opportunity for people passionate about fine food and wine to meet the Chaine members and maybe consider joining up."

For this Bastille Day dinner, you'll experience Ochre's take on classic French food with a native Australian twist.

You'll be served canapés including smoked cod, tomato jelly, duck rillet, native aniseed sea urchin, dessert lime accompanied by Charles Orban NV Champagne. For appetiser, you'll get the Coffin Bay oyster trio with Davidson plum, finger lime and lemon aspen, served with La Maschera Vermentino 2015.

Entrée will be red claw lobster, bisque, and samphire served with De Beaurepaire Chardonnay 2016, while the main will be poussin, snails, garlic, sherry and citrus accompanied by Singlefile Clement V 2015. For a palate cleanser, sip on champagne and enjoy a sunrise lime sorbet. To finish, dessert will raspberry, riberry and rosella tart with a Bleasdale Sparkling Shiraz.

The Ochre Bastille Day dinner takes place on July 14 from 6.30pm. Call 4051 0100 to reserve your spot.

3. MAMA COCO

Chef extraordinaire Davy O'Rourke is back with another pop-up dinner, this time to mark Bastille Day. And what a menu it is!

Expect a tantalising 6-course menu featuring truffles from the Southern Highlands of NSW in what the Mama crew are calling a "truly decadent one off menu" Ooh la la! It's BYO as well, so grab your favourite French drop and get set for a taste-filled journey to Paris and beyond.

Davy's pop-up dinners have become legendary, so don't miss this one.
