Cairns' very own Imperfect Mum chosen as the face of national health campaign

Kristy Vallely's honest and frank approach to tough issues has gained a huge following online, and now she's taking her message to an even bigger audience.

It takes a brave, confident human to write a personal blog full of raw issues and real conversations of the type most of us avoid in our daily lives.

Kristy Vallely is that human. And the remarkable success of her blog The Imperfect Mum has attracted the attention of national women's health organisation True.

With an ever-increasing abundance of health advice available on the internet - much of it impossible to verify or trust - True wanted to cut through the clutter and deliver factual, reliable advice for Australian women.

They saw Kristy as the perfect vehicle to do it.

Filming of a video series featuring Kristy in conversation with leading women's health clinicians began in Cairns this week.

Greg Elphinston from True said Kristy's ability to discuss difficult subjects in an engaging, accessible way was an ideal fit for the project.

"There are billions of web pages but when it comes to health, it’s hard to know who to trust," he said.

"True has provided independent, expert health services to women across Queensland for 45 years, so it was important for us to work with someone with authenticity and passion.

"We wanted to partner with Kristy because she has an incredibly strong desire to serve other women. She’s also charismatic and genuine, which matters. After all, anyone can share information.

"The challenge is doing so without sending people to sleep. With Kristy involved, there is zero chance of that happening."

Kristy described the collaboration as a "dream come true".

"These are real conversations between Australian women and I've always wanted to include health care professionals’ voices on The Imperfect Mum," she said.

"The response I've had from my community just shows there's a real need for these types of conversations."

The first video is scheduled for publication in November and will be made available online at The Imperfect Mum and True.
