Work to transform the showgrounds for the event has already begun with organisers saying ticket sales show locals are keen to attend music festivals of this type.

"It is always a challenge attracting and locking in big name acts," festival co-founder Johnny Eddings said.

"We really felt strongly about bringing something special to Cairns."

The Festival started in April 2016 and attracted 2,500 people to the first event. Since then, it has outgrown its original Fogarty Park location and is going from strength to strength with co-founder Oli Frost saying watching the Festival grow has been really satisfying.

“The ticket sales show us that there is real appeal for The Grass is Greener and that we are onto something here in TNQ,” he said.

“From the outset, our mission has been to bring the biggest names out of the city confines to the north and then blend it with our very own special festival brand and ambience.

“The tropical climate, picturesque surrounds and intimate stages in city-heart settings provide all the makings of a memorable festival that we believe has the potential to etch its name and reputation in Australia’s music festival list of must-do’s."

And the Festival also offers local musicians a chance to rub shoulders with some big name acts and perform in front of thousands of fans with Drew Brauer of Drew Boy and the Sax Addicts saying the band was "stoked" to be involved.

"It is great to see a Festival like this in Cairns," he said.

"The calibre of artists attending is amazing, we are really stoked to be a part of it and playing at the showgrounds is going to be a big deal."
