TNQ locals keen to hear from unconventional entrepreneurs

Cairns is clearly a hotspot for entrepreneurs and startup innovators with a staggering 900 locals already signed up to attend the Entrepreneurs’ Unconvention in Cairns in September.

And if you're interested in attending the event, you'd better get in quickly with numbers set to be capped at 2000.

One of the brains behind the concept, founder and CEO of The Entourage, Jack Delosa said the response from Cairns had been "incredible".

“We thought we would have a strong market in Cairns but we were not expecting this response,” he said.

“We usually sell out a week or two before the event but for Cairns we could sell out a month before.

“We had a soft launch last week and within 24 hours about 400 people had registered.

“We are also looking for a larger venue to host the event, we had to upgrade due to the number of registrations.”

Cairns will be the first regional city to host the Unconvention with the support of Advance Queensland, Cairns Regional Council and the Young Entrepreneurs Project.

“The collaboration is a real testimony to when governments and councils are truly interested in driving innovation and entrepreneurship,” he said.

“It is a big part of why we are coming to Cairns."

Starting in 2010, The Entrepreneurs’ Unconvention has brought together more than 22,150 people to learn strategies for building a great business from Australia’s most successful entrepreneurs and innovators.

Fitness and business guru Michelle Bridges will be the keynote speaker in Cairns and she will be joined on stage by Mr Delosa and Peter Lackovic who will all share their experiences in the business world.

“Unconvention is a chance for anyone who is in business, looking to get into business, or who wants a meaningful career to come along and hear from people who have been there and done that,” he said.

Cairns Regional Council Mayor Bob Manning said the event was a great fit for Cairns.

“We’re seeing business growth in our region being increasingly driven by lifestyle desires,” he said.

“Cairns is perfectly positioned to become a national entrepreneurial hotspot, and hosting the Cairns Unconvention will help put us firmly on the map as a prime lifestyle-oriented destination.”
