Second driver dies following crash near Mareeba last month

A second person has died, three weeks after a fatal crash in Mareeba claimed the life of a Tablelands mother.

Two four-wheel-drives travelling in opposite directions collided on the Kennedy Highway just north of the Gallo Drive intersection on the morning of July 28.

Tinaroo woman and mother of three Karen Kattenburg, who was the driver and sole occupant of one vehicle, was declared deceased at the scene.

The driver of the other vehicle, a 56-year-old man from Mareeba, was taken to Cairns Hospital with serious injuries, but police say he has now died.

The Forensic Crash Unit is continuing to investigate.
