Authorities are investigating the cause of a fire which destroyed a florist and a café and damaged a third business in Mareeba overnight.

It’s the second CBD fire in Mareeba in less than a month, with two children charged over a blaze which gutted Performance Motors on June 29.

In the latest fire, Hort St Café (formerly Leaf and Vine) and the adjoining Floral Magic have been destroyed, while the roof of Sharpe Psychology has been damaged.

All three businesses are located in Hort Street just metres from Mareeba Police Station.

Witnesses reported hearing a bang before flames erupted, just before 1-AM.

“It was well involved,” a spokesperson for the Queensland Fire and Emergency Service told Tropic Now.

It took six fire crews just under an hour to get the blaze under control.

Firefighters remained on site for several hours mopping up.

Police are also investigating, with a spokesman telling Tropic Now all fires are treated as suspicious until proven otherwise.

More to come.
