Have you ever wondered where to buy the best bacon in Far North Queensland? Or the best gourmet sausages and burger patties?
You’re in luck because the Australian Meat Industry Council has just announced its Tropical North Queensland winners for the 2021 Sausage King, Best Butchers Burger and Smallgoods competition.
Edge Hill Butchery dominated (they are clearly the burger kings), while Molone’s in Port Douglas and Russo’s Quality Meats in Mareeba also had plenty of accolades.
Wins were also notched up by Paul Marsh butcheries in Stratford and Cross Custom Meats in Atherton.
Bryant’s Family Butchery in Woree, Clifton Beach Butchery and Babinda Meat Mart made it onto the honours list, too.
Winners are now vying for prizes at the state awards to be held October 9 in Brisbane.

"It was a clean sweep," Edge Hill butcher Rod Leaver told Tropic Now.
"Over the past three years we've being doing a lot with our burgers and our sausages.
"We pride ourselves on a lot of gourmet products and these ones the customers like and we’ve had great feedback.
"We always use good produce and I'm pretty fussy about that.
"So you can be confident, but you never really know – it comes back to the day and judges."
