The Queensland Government has extended its COVID-19 vaccination mandate to include schools, childcare centres, jails and airports.

The Premier made the announcement this morning, saying the new measures are aimed at keeping vulnerable Queenslanders protected.

People who work in schools (both public and private), early childhood centres, correctional centres, youth detention facilities and airports must receive one jab by December 17 and be fully vaccinated by January 23.

“This is all about keeping Queenslanders safe,” Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said.

“While children cannot access the vaccination, it is important those around them take every step they can to prevent the virus spreading in schools and early childhood centres.

“Airports are the gateway to the virus entering Queensland and there are vulnerable people in our corrections systems.”

86.27 per cent of Queenslanders over the age of 16 have now had their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

76.08 per cent are fully vaccinated.
