Emergency services have this morning resumed the search for a spear fisher who disappeared near Sudbury Reef on Saturday.

Police say the 26-year-old local man became separated from his 56-year-old fishing companion and failed to return to their six-metre boat.

He was reported missing just after 4pm and Cairns Water police began am immediate search, alongside a Coast Guard helicopter.

Since then, police divers have also joined the search.

“They’re back in the water again today,” he said.

47 square nautical miles were covered yesterday, while dozens of private vessels are also on the lookout for the missing man, after his sister appealed to boat owners to help out.

 

“Please if anyone has any information, forward to Cairns Police or if you are planning to go out tomorrow, keep an eye out,” Genavie Tabuai said on social media.

“He's slim built, mid 20s.”

The men are understood to be work colleagues.
