Q&A WITH PEKING DUK

Tell us the magic ingredients of Peking Duk and how it came to be?

Adam: Two young dudes, young, dumb and full of fun met each other at a skate park in Canberra, Australia. We were both doing music in different worlds when a mutual friend of ours brought our worlds together with the magic of fidget house music, like Old Crookers and Fake Blood.

Reuben: It changed our lives

Adam: Our music then evolved from there.

The name... Please share its origin.

Adam: It has nothing to do with the food. We were young when it came about and we were partying, and sometimes when you party you scrunch up your face.

Reuben: You could be at a party and sometimes you’re dancing in a corner just with your face like “wow” *scrunches face into duck face*

Highlights to date?

Adam: Definitely Friday night at Splendour in the Grass with the lovely Aluna George on stage with us. That was on some next level shit. 

Peking Duk's travel essentials where on tour?

Adam: Armaforce, Nurofen, coffee – hopefully there’s a café nearby.

Reuben: Sunglasses and Nintendo switch – Shout out Mario Cart.

If you weren't a musician, producer or DJ, what would you be doing instead?

Adam: Probably still working at Maccas

Reuben: I’d still be a Barista, we’re very talented Baristas. There should be a barista competition for all the musicians in Australia.

Adam: You’d Win

Reuben: Because every musician used to be a barista.

If you could give advice for aspiring artists out there, what would it be?

Adam: Do you / Be yourself.

Who or what was your musical influence growing up and how did that influence you as an artist?

Adam: There were lots. I guess collectively Reuben and I share a lot of the same tastes, like Dr Dre’s 2001 album, The Strokes. Everyone goes through a lot of different phases growing up as a teenager with phases of metal, like Slayer and Megadeath. Then it sort of turns into hiphop, then dance music I guess. 

If you could be a super hero or have a magic ability, what would it be and why?

Reuben: Spiderman so I don’t have to use the elevator

Adam: I’d be Happyman – I’d point at people like “hey” 

What is your impression of North Queensland and its emerging festival scene?

Adam: North Queensland is dope and we can’t wait to get up there

Reuben: People in North Queensland party the hardest, it was our favourite stop at Groovin The Moo a couple of days ago.

Adam: Yeah, we got thrown out of one bar three times and they kept on letting us back in and I respect that

Reuben: Even when the bar closed we climbed back in through the roof

Adam: Haha, that’s a true story

If you could time warp yourself to any point in history when would it be and who would you hang out with?

Reuben: 1777, I’d go hang with George Washington and be like “What’s up Diggy Dog?” I’m here to fight the red coats. Tell them to piss off to their homeland

Adam: Probably right now, I’m liking it. It’s 2017. It’s popping.

Reuben: OH – At the same time going to Scotland to fight the red coats.

Adam: Reuben is all about fighting the good fight.

What's your favourite comedy YouTube clip?

Adam: I like all the Dave Chappelle ones, Dave just smashes it out of the park. Also Eddie Murphy – Raw and Delirious
