Trade jobs avaiable in region as part of Ergon recruitment drive

TNQ locals looking to spark an electrifying career are being encouraged to get involved in Ergon Energy’s industry field and substation crew apprenticeship recruitment campaign.

The campaign to attract apprentices to join both Ergon and Energex starts this week with 94 positions available across 35 locations, including in Atherton, Cairns, Mareeba and Mossman.

With a focus on attracting women to the previously male-dominated professions a record number of apprenticeships will be offered to female candidates this year, with Energy Minister Mark Bailey saying Ergon will also reserve a number of positions for people of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent.

“These positions are expected to be among the most keenly sought apprenticeships in Queensland,” he said.

“The successful applicants each year include a mix of school-leavers and mature-age candidates, so people of all ages and backgrounds are encouraged to apply for this great opportunity to learn a valuable trade."

The apprenticeships are available in a range of trades, including communications technician, distribution linesperson, transmission linesperson, mechanical trade (diesel fitting) and electrician.

Most of the apprentices for this intake will be based at Ergon's depots in regional and rural areas because Energex also conducts a mid-year intake for its southeast Queensland depots.

Applications close on October 9. For more information or to apply, click here.
