Man arrested in Far North Queensland drug bust

A 69 year-old man will face court next month following the discovery of 71 cannabis plants at a home in Far North Queensland.

Police executed a search warrant at an address in Hillview Road, Julatten, yesterday morning.

Along with the plants, discovered growing on the large rural block west of Port Douglas, police seized about 200 cannabis seeds and drug utensils.

Senior Constable Matt Cornish told Tropic Now investigators received tip-offs from the public.

“As police we receive intelligence and we conduct our own patrols and with that intelligence we are able to execute search warrants,” he said.

“It is an offence to produce a dangerous drug and as such the man was charged with a serious offence.”

The man was charged with one count each of producing a dangerous drug, possession of a dangerous drug and possession of drug utensils.

He’ll face Mossman Magistrates court on May 12.
