Pop-up event brings street food, live music and fun times to vintage venue

TropicNow and yRepublic have teamed up with some of the city's emerging chefs for a unique pop-up event featuring tasty treats and good vibes at a retro bowls club in Westcourt.

There's a very special pop-up event of great food and good vibes happening on Saturday 5 November.

And you're invited to join in the fun.

TropicNow has teamed up with yRepublic to deliver Meet Eat Repeat at the West Cairns Bowls Club, a funky retro venue on Gatton St.

Meet Eat Repeat will be held from 3pm-7pm on Saturday, 5 November - the perfect afternoon spot for a quick bite and cheap beer before the Cairns Taipans game tips off later that evening.

Highlights at the event include:

There'll be more announcements about food vendors, music and fun stuff over the next couple of weeks.

Meet Eat Repeat was first devised at a think tank held by yRepublic last year, with a vision to support entrepreneurship, neighbourhood-activation and connecting like minded millennials.

TropicNow has a similar vision for our editorial content both online and in print, so in the spirit of collaboration the two organisations recently partnered up to deliver the event.

Chef Wolfgang from the West Cairns Bistro - a new restaurant at the bowls club gaining a huge following for its smoked BBQ meats and delicious sides - is pumped about taking part in Meet Eat Repeat.

"We're very excited about hosting Meet Eat Repeat at our venue...we're keen to showcase and share this beautiful and friendly "hidden gem behind the hedge" in the middle of Cairns," Wolfgang said.

"This gastronomical movement of pop up events and street food festivals is very popular in capital cities and internationally and I believe Cairns is now ready to develop its own unique 'foodie scene' events to showcase our local produce and passionate food producers.

"At Meet Eat Repeat you can kick back at a table or bring a rug to enjoy a picnic on the green, and kids are most welcome with plenty of green space for them to run around.

"I think it's going to be a sensational way to spend a foodie day!"

Bronwyn Voyce from yRepublic said Meet Eat Repeat was designed to get millennials "connecting, collaborating and actively participating" in the Cairns community.

yRepublic is keen to hear from any young chefs or foodies keen to get a stall and take part in the event (to do so contact us here).

"After our successful Think Tank held in 2015, yRepublic has been busily incubating some of the ideas presented and we're excited to be collaborating with TropicNow to deliver the first Meet Eat Repeat, a pop-up street food experience that targets millennials," Ms Voyce said.

Meet Eat Repeat is presented by TropicNow and yRepublic.

The event will be held from 3pm-7pm on Saturday 5 November at West Cairns Bowls Club, 216 Gatton St.
