Beloved live music venue fights for its survival with crowdfunding campaign
Supporters of 12 Bar Blue have launched a crowdfunding campaign to save the venue after rising red tape costs forced it to close down.

They say old rockers die hard. The same could be said of live music venue 12 Bar Blue in the Cairns CBD.
Just days after announcing it was closing down due to exorbitant red tape and rising fees, a crowd-funding campaign has been launched to help keep it open.
The small bar announced on its Facebook page on Sunday that it was shutting down after nearly 10 years in operation.
"I'm saddened to say that after tomorrow's big jam session I'll turn off the music, switch off the lights and lock the door for the last time," owners AD and Maz wrote.
"Unfortunately, free live music comes with one too many local, state and federal price tags for the little man. I'm not whinging...just got too tired and a little jaded."
After an outpouring of support following the announcement, a Go Fund Me crowdfunding campaign was launched yesterday.
The campaign aims to raise $20,000 to pay for live music license fees and appoint a permanent bar manager.
"Maz and A.D have worked tirelessly promoting live and local acts and giving them the helping hand up so many need," the support page reads.
"12 Bar is looking to place a permanent manager and change the licence so live music can continue in this truly iconic venue."
