Unique pop-up dining experience set to spice up the Cairns foodie scene

Food culture in Cairns will be taken to a whole new level with the launch of The Dining Project, a never-before-seen collaboration by three local brands in secret locations across the city.

Edge Hill restaurant NOA, Westcourt café Mama Coco and media/marketing studio Tropic Group have joined forces to create The Dining Project, a series of pop-up events featuring unique food and wine concepts in surprising settings.

The Dining Project’s first event is called The Spice Market, a 7-course dining experience with matching wines to be held in a secret location on September 21. Limited tickets will be available for this one-off event.

LIMITED TICKETS AVAILABLE

Sam Byrd from NOA said tickets for The Spice Market were already selling fast just a few days after being released to the public.

“All we can say is to be prepared to be wined and dined… the Dining Project is a first for Cairns and the menu, matching wines and concept will never be repeated,” he said.

“We’ve done a range of special dinner events at NOA but we’ve been searching for the right partners and some unique venues to take it to the next level – The Dining Project is the result of that search and it’s incredibly exciting to be part of.”

7-COURSE MENU WITH MATCHING WINES

Davy O’Rourke, a renowned chef and owner of Mama Coco, said the 7-course menu will be curated to match the setting and surrounds of the venue.

“The Spice Market will be a foodie event not to be missed with a menu inspired by the colours and spices of South-East Asian cuisine and the produce you might find at street markets,” Davy said.

“Everything from the ingredients to the matching wines to the theming will reflect the concept of The Spice Market.”

FOODIE EVOLUTION

Gavin King from Tropic Group said the launch of The Dining Project was another evolutionary step in the burgeoning Cairns foodie scene.

“We’ve loved collaborating with NOA and Mama Coco on our event Meet Eat Repeat festivals over the past two years, so the launch of The Dining Project is an exciting development in that partnership,” Gavin said.

“Our team has been organising foodie events and writing about the local food culture in Tropic Magazine and we’ve definitely noticed the growth in appreciation for high-quality offerings in coffee, bars, restaurants and events over the past couple of years.

“The Dining Project is one of the most exciting, unique events we’ve been involved in, and I can’t wait for the foodies of Cairns to experience it.”
