Events, drives, overnight stays and getaways. Welcome to our recommendations for the ideal 48 hour holiday at home.

DURATION OF TRIP: 10am Saturday > 4pm Sunday

Keen for a quick overnighter in beautiful Port Douglas? The Tropic crew's got you covered with this itinerary to coincide with the Port Douglas Carnivale, happening on May 24-26.

DRIVE: Mustang

Iconic styling and grunt under the bonnet.

Even better when it’s a bright yellow beast with racing stripes.

What’s not to like about driving a new Mustang on the winding roads of the Tropical North?

AVAILABLE: Take a test drive at Trinity Auto

STAY: Coconut Grove

Incredibly spacious and luxurious apartment-style accommodation on the main strip of Macrossan St.

Coconut Grove is one of the newest hotels in Port Douglas, and we absolutely loved it.

BOOK: Coconut Grove Port Douglas or 07 4099 0600

DO: Eat, Drink, Shop

If you time it right, you’ll be able to experience Port Douglas Carnivale on May 24-26.

Otherwise, we recommend a walk along Four Mile Beach, a bite at Little Larder, coffee at Origin and book shopping at Whileaway.

Finish off with a freshly brewed beer at Hemingways at Crystalbrook Superyacht Marina

PARTY AT CARNIVALE

Fabulous food, creative floats, daring burlesque, a big beach playdate, Abba and Eskimo Joe - Port Douglas Carnivale is ready to party.

The Tropical North’s favourite event is turning 25 and celebrating with a Silver and Sunshine theme, a nod to the shining success of this annual event and its lustrous locale.

Kicking off from May 24-26, this three-day festival is packed with music, fun and feasting from The Longest Lunch to Australia’s ultimate seafood extravaganza.

Enjoy the vibrant Macrossan Street Parade, as colourful floats, lively entertainment and roving street performers make their way through the centre of Port Douglas.

Rock on under the stars with Aria-award winning artist Eskimo Joe, enjoy all day family fun at the Beach Day, or take a seat under the big top for some wickedly naughty entertainment at the Wonderland Spiegeltent.
