Domestic visitors to Tropical North Queensland up despite slow start to 2019
The number of Australian visitors to Tropical North Queensland continues to climb, according to the Tourism Research Australia’s latest domestic visitor survey.
2,019,000 Australian tourists came to the region over the 12 months to the end of March, up from 1,920,000 in the year to March 2018.
They also stayed longer, with visitor nights up by more than one and a half million in the same period.
Overall expenditure climbed slightly but the average spend per visitor per night was slightly down from $229 to $211.
The research doesn't include isolated quarterly figures for the January to March period, however Cairns Airport passenger statistics show there was a definite slowdown, with domestic passenger numbers dropping by more than 50,000.
