Cairns police uncover residential hydroponic cannabis plantation

A 51 year-old man has been charged after the discovery of what police describe as a ‘significant’ indoor cannabis operation at Trinity Park.

112 plants in varying stages of growth were found at the Reed Road address, as well as packaged marijuana, seeds, growing equipment and drug utensils.

Senior Constable Russell Parker said a warrant was issued after police received information from the public.

“They actually located an active hydroponic growing system inside the home and in an adjoining shed,” he said.

“It was quite an elaborate system with the lights and everything to encourage the rate of growth.

“Officers said it was a very neat set-up and quite a lot of work had gone into it.”

The male resident taken into custody and charged with producing a dangerous drug in a quantity exceeding schedule 3 of the Drugs Misuse Regulation, possession of a dangerous drug and possession of drug utensils.

He’s scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on November 28.
