Tropic Now's ultimate guide to the Scene & Heard music festival

Get ready: Scene & Heard is bringing old-school music festival vibes to Cairns this Sunday.

The nostalgic line-up hails from a time when festivals were more about energy and wild abandon than Instagram opportunities and likes.

Time to put your phones away and soak up the authentic atmosphere.

Tropic Now has everything you need to know.

    LINEUP AND SET TIMES

    Wolfmother - on stage 8pm-9pm

Headlining the festival and fresh from an international tour and this year’s Splendour in the Grass is Grammy and ARIA award recipients Wolfmother. From the moment the electrifying riff kicks off in Joker and the Thief to the psychedelic breakdown in Woman, Wolfmother’s epic hard rock catalogue is tailor-made for the ultimate festival experience.

    You Am I - on stage 5.50pm - 7.40pm

The alternative rockers were the first band to release three successive albums to debut at #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart in the late 90s. They received no less than 10 ARIA awards from 31 nominations during this time. You Am I certainly knows how to rock a crowd, supporting international artists like The Who, The Rolling Stones and Oasis.

    Alex Lloyd - on stage 4.45pm - 5.30pm

Singer-songwriter Alex Lloyd is celebrating the 20th anniversary of his ARIA award-winning, double platinum-selling Black the Sun, which was voted by Triple J listeners as the number one album in 1999. At Scene & Heard he’ll play his debut album in full, re-living his Big Day Out and Homebake days. The album was released about five years before Lloyd’s breakthrough song Amazing.

    Sneaky Sound System - on stage 3.45pm - 4.25pm

Bringing the beats with a bunch of absolute bangers is dance music act Sneaky Sound System. While duo Connie Mitchell and Angus McDonald are now married with children it hasn’t slowed them down a bit. Be prepared to groove to mid-noughties classics like UFO, Pictures and I Love It

    Gyroscope - on stage 2.45pm - 3.25pm

Big in the alternative music world from 1999, punk rockers Gyroscope hit the mainstream in 2004 with their single Safe Forever and were the opening act for Blink 182’s tour the same year. Fast Girl and Beware Wolf were their other two big hits with their music described as being able to work its way into your mindset.

    Magic Dirt - on stage 1.45pm - 2.25pm

Most known for their 2000 hit Dirty Jeans, the alt-rock icons are back playing together ten years after the sad death of their bassist and co-founder Dean Turner. Magic Dirt was also recently inducted into the National Live Music Awards Hall of Fame as the inaugural live legends.

    Dr Elephant - on stage 12.45pm - 1.25pm

Local band Dr Elephant were Darwin's longest-running cover band and recently decided to make the move to Cairns. You may have seen one of their gigs at some of the city's best and most iconic venues, including Hemingway's Brewery and Gilligan's.
