With Australian basketball reaching new heights on the back of the Boomer's stellar performance at the World Cup, there's never been a better time to check out our city's only national sporting team as they hit the court this weekend.
The Cairns Taipans take on the Brisbane Bullets in two pre-season games at the Fish Tank tonight (Friday) and Sunday, the first chance for local fans to get a close-up look at the finalised roster in action.
Cairns Basketball Stadium on Aumuller St will be jam-packed as the Taipans continue their pre-season run after a three-game road trip in Melbourne last month, going 1-1 in a two game series against South East Melbourne Phoenix and delivering a strong performance in a loss to Melbourne United.
Bullets stars Cam Gliddon and Nathan Sobey are in China with the Boomers, while for the Taipans big man Nate Jawai may play but import Scott Machado is out for tonight's game.
The start of the NBL season is just weeks away, with the Taipans' first game on October 4, a tough opener against the Sydney Kings at the Cairns Convention Centre.
