Tropic drops Issue 27 with new Editor reveal

The new Tropic magazine is here with a bold new look – and an exciting team announcement.

Around a year ago, we set a target to reach one million page views in 2020. We hit that goal after five months and five days.

For context, we recorded 848,116 page views across the entire twelve month period of 2019.

Our former Senior Journalist Renee Cluff was instrumental in achieving that one million milestone, particularly with her coverage on local COVID-19 issues.

So when the opportunity arose to recruit a new Editor, Tropic Group’s Managing Director Leah Horstmann immediately knew Renee would be perfect for the role.

And we’re thrilled to announce she agreed. Renee will rejoin the Tropic team as Editor in January 2021.

“Renee is a storyteller who loves listening more than speaking, and during her one and a half years with our team as a Senior Journalist, these qualities resonated with our readers,” Leah said.

“Renee was a driving force behind the incredible growth in readership of TropicNow.com.au and brought researched and engaging content to Tropic magazine.

“I’m super excited to work with Renee again, this time in her new role setting the editorial vision and direction of Tropic’s publications.”

A journalist with more than 20 years’ experience across print, digital and broadcast media, Renee fell in love with the tropics when she and her family moved from NSW to PNG a decade ago, before settling in Cairns.

"It has always been a pleasure working with such a professional, creative and vibrant Tropic team,” Renee said.

"I look forward to building on the legacy of our previous editor, Gavin King, who is to be congratulated for building such a fine product from the ground up.

"As Tropic embarks on its next chapter, I look forward to delivering news and feature stories that are engaging and relevant.

"You, the reader, will be front and centre of all editorial decisions."

Read more about Renee’s appointment in our new Dec-Jan issue, which is being dropped all around Cairns from today.
