Tropic Weekender: Your curated guide to the best events across the Cairns region this weekend

With school holidays in full swing and some beautiful balmy weather ahead, events are finally kicking back into gear.

The forecast shows the max temp across Saturday and Sunday to be 31C, with a light breeze and next to no chance of showers on both days.

Wherever the weekend takes you, the Tropic team hopes you have blast.

Friday September 25

The weekend's already started with Rowe Racing Day at Cairns Jockey Club. Gates open at 12 noon but races will carry on 'till the early evening.

Then you can swing by Laneway Green for its monthly craft beer tasting and bespoke cocktails. $69 will keep your pint or glass topped up all night.

Boardwalk Social are also launching its Friyay with Flynn tonight, with knock-offs starting at 5pm.

Saturday September 26

Yungaburra Markets, the longest-running markets on the Atherton Tablelands, will kick-off bright and early Saturday morning. There'll be something for everyone among the eclectic range of fares and wares from across the region.

The Energy 2020 Exhibition at Tanks Art Centre will also continue over the weekend, as well as Disquiet: Ecological Anxieties & Transformations at NorthSite Contemporary Arts.

The Great Northern Clean Up is another great school holiday activity, with several spots getting scrubbed up over the weekend.

Sunday September 27

Ironman is a big one this weekend, and you can find all of the relevant deets in our article here.

Budding runners might also like to join in on the first race of the Summer Trail Series, a 5.5km or 8km run at Smithfield Conservation Park.

Those less-sporty could just round off the weekend by listening to some live music. Kaweyova at Rattle n Hum sounds pretty good to us.
