Blagojevic completes Taipans' 2020-21 stellar local lineup

The Cairns Taipans have today revealed young gun George Blagojevic will rejoin the team in the upcoming NBL season.

The announcement finalises the team’s stellar local lineup, but uncertainty remains as to who will fill the two remaining import spots.

Blagojevic’s new one-year contract comes after a solid off-season spent training with the team in Cairns.

The 23-year-old also showed great potential in the recent “Top of the North” series against Townsville, scoring 40 points across both matches.

After a promising performance in the regional series, Head Coach Mike Kelly said Blagojevic is ready to “fight and scratch for every minute” on the NBL court.

“Last season George showed flashes of his ability to become a strong NBL rotation player, and his hard work and love of the game is paying off in the way he’s been training this off-season,” said Kelly.

“This season, I’m expecting all the guys to step up, including George. He’s going to get more opportunities and I know he’s going to be ready to take it.”

Kelly is confident Blagojevic’s resigning alongside six other returning players will see the Taipans build on their impressive 2019-20 season.

Blagojevic joins Nate Jawai, Kouat Noi, Mojave King, Jarrod Kenny, Mirko Djeric, Fabijan Krslovic, Jordan Ngatai and Majok Deng with two import spots open for the upcoming season.
