Tropic Weekender: Your curated guide to the best events across the Cairns region this weekend

The long weekend is here – hallelujah.

The forecast shows the max temp across the weekend to be 30C, with only a slight chance of showers and a moderate breeze over the four days.

Wherever your long weekend winds up, the Tropic team hopes you enjoy every moment.

Friday October 2

With the first weekend of the new month comes our favourite beer-drinking bonanza: Oktoberfest. Hemingway's are well-stocked with steins and ready to kick off their two-day event this afternoon.

Savannah Summer Series – Australia's first country music festival post-COVID – rolls into Mareeba Rodeo Grounds today. Featuring Lee Kernaghan and a stellar all-Aussie lineup, live music lovers won't want to miss this gig.

If you're looking to start the weekend a little slower there's a few solo performances tonight too. Clint Boge is playing at Tanks Art Centre and Klare KuOlga will bring her sweet, soulful tunes to Atherton Performing Arts.

Saturday October 3

There'll be talent and treasure galore at Koah Markets, with live music and local produce to start your Saturday.

Further south you'll find Gordonvale Cottage Markets, which is looking to be the perfect place to pick up a coffee before the Gordonvale Cup. Giddy up for a full afternoon of racing and ritzy fashion.

Jelly Oshen will bring the afternoon to a close with his set at Wharf One Cafe, and later on Ben Knight will host an intimate 50-seat performance at Macalister Brewing Company.

Sunday October 4

The Palm Cove Markets are here again. With over a hundred stalls of handmade gifts and souvenirs, there's a reason this monthly event is known as the best beachside markets in the Tropical North.

Those touring the Tablelands might like to drop into Tolga Markets for the freshest fruit and veg around, and vintage wares to boot.

Back in the city at Boardwalk Social will host local singer/songwriter Bobby Maguire, while those looking for a little more activity can take part in a Mount Gay Rum Master Class at Flamingos Tiki Bar.

Today's is also the last day to see the Sidney Nolan Ned Kelly Series at Cairns Art Gallery.

Monday October 5

Long weekends are always a good chance to fit in a moment of rest – or hit one of the many hiking spots you've been meaning to do.

Laughing Heart Comedy at the Paramour Cabaret Theatre is also looking like a nice way to close off the Queen's birthday too.
