Tropic Weekender: Your curated guide to the best events across the Cairns region this weekend

Fancy a gin flight tonight? The Tropic team certainly do.

You could enjoy your EOW drinks with a special tasting session at Wolf Lane Distillery, followed by a wander over to Boardwalk Social.

The weather's looking pretty fine again this weekend – almost as fine as Cairns' upcoming events.

Find your weekend below.

Friday 29 January

EOW drinks have been upgraded at Wolf Lane Distillery tonight. Enjoy your Friday knock-offs at a Gin Tasting with Mark Hickey from 5:30pm – history session individual charcuterie boards to boot!

The HeART Project Exhibition launches at Tanks tonight from 6pm. Featuring artists from correctional and detention facilities, the works portray how acute rheumatic fever (ARF) and rheumatic heart disease (RHD) have impacted their families and communities.

If gourmet food, good vibes and live music sounds like your thing, Boardwalk Social is your jam. Crystalbrook’s best regular event is again hosting local musician Bobby Maguire from 6pm tonight.

Saturday 30 January

Today’s the last day to see Patricia Piccinini’s Curious Affection exhibition at NorthSite Contemporary Arts. These hyper-realistic, thought-provoking sculptures are a must-see.

Head over to Macalister Brewery in Smithfield tonight and be entertained by comedy veteran Guilt Free Comedy’s Katrina Davidson, who’s entertained crowds from ABC Radio to the world renowned Montreal Comedy Festival.

The German Club’s putting on Oz-toberfest tonight, because Oktoberfest simply wasn’t enough. From 5pm, you can get around some german beer or schnapps while listening to oompah band Pork Knuckle.

Cairns Jockey Club Summer Series Race Day is running nine races over today. Don your favourite frock and fascinator and listen to some live music by Rebecca Langtree.

Sunday 31 January

It wouldn’t be a Sunday without some markets, and we think the Port Douglas Sunday Markets are one of the best – boasting over 150 stalls beneath the palms’ shade.

For something a bit obscure, Cairns Museum is featuring Objects Of Fascination: Theo Tremblay's Shaverology. Tremblay’s vast and eclectic collection of shaving items will definitely pique your interest.

Unseen Cinema will also screen How to be a Good Wife at Earlville from 4:30pm, an eagerly anticipated new comedy that’s both satirical and tender.
