Thursday 18 August

The Illuminate FNQ International Science & Eco Festival is celebrating Science Week. The festival will host a range of activities, as well as keynote speaker former NASA astronaut Dr Mary Ellen Weber - how cool?! Check online for the full program.

The Reef to Reef mountain biking stage race is on this weekend, providing an opportunity for pros and enthusiasts to get involved. You can register online, there's a few racing options available for going solo or in a pair.

Friday 19 August

Tickets are still available for Crystalbrook Riley's inaugural Longest Lunch. You'll be treated to a four course feast showcasing sustainably sourced dishes that really make the most of winter in Cairns. 

Robyn Baker and Ed Kouman's new exhibition 'ERP' is opening at creative hub Crate59.

The German Club is celebrating the humble schnitzel with its very own classical night, an evening with live performances and music from the golden era.

Cairns Cup Carnival kicks off with Ladies Day. From Luncheons, to Beers and Bubbles, there's plenty of reasons to get dressed up and get an early start on the silly season.

With the cool nights not yet a thing of the past, Starry Night Cinema will be showing Strictly Ballroom at the Botanic Gardens. Grab tickets online, or at the door if not sold out.

Born Free Animal Rescue FNQ is hosting a Kitten Adoption Day at Pet Cafe on Anderson St. If you're after a new addition, there's no better way than to adopt.

Cairns Colour Frenzy is on this evening with a different take on the day event. This time you'll get to make your way down the Esplanade through colour stations, foam, bubbles, and obstacles. Tickets are available online.

It's Karaoke with host 'Rockin Rick' at Macalister's. Working with Rotary Cairns Northern Beaches, the event is raising funds for youth projects in the Northern Beaches.

Sunday 21 August

If you're into birds, then the Bird Expo is worth the $2 entry. Take the opportunity to chat to local breeders, see a range of birds, and you may as well grab a snag while you're there.

It's that time again, The Pier Markets are on to welcome a cruisy Sunday morning and a means to keep the kids entertained.

For a different take on your morning, Ecstatic Dance Cairns is having a Morning Sundance at Skypark Cairns. Tickets can be purchased online for individuals and groups up to 3.
