A sprawling residence overlooking Cairns has been named Master Builders Queensland's Far North House of the Year.

Ash Moseley Homes picked up the coveted award during a glittering soiree at the Pullman International on Friday night.

The Oceanview project in City View Estate at Mooroobool also picked up the award for Individual Home from $1.25 million up to $2 million and secured the Best Use of Sloping Sites title.

Judges were impressed by how the builder constructed the design around a large rock.

“This expansive vista-centric home beguiles the challenging building site with seamless integration into the surrounding hillslope,” they said in a statement.

“This home draws on coastal elements with the use of natural stone and timber cladding within the living and entertaining spaces.

“Ash Moseley Homes has managed a superb marriage of complex design with timeless, relaxed, elegant finishes.”

The home features glassed walkways linking the stepped levels of the four bedrooms with the living areas.

It also has a study, media room and gym, with a central swimming pool.

Natural stone-clad walls, expansive glazing and Hi-lite louvres for cross-ventilation are among materials and products used.

The kitchen features timber slatted fretwork, stone mitred benchtops, glass splashbacks and loads of storage space.

In other major awards, Project of the Year went to Bryant Building Contractors for the Newman Catholic College in Smithfield.

The facility is spread over four levels, incorporating traditional and innovative contemporary learning spaces for students.

Key design features include two-story colonnades with tiered seating, a fully equipped commercial café and plaza areas.

The project also won the award for Education Facilities over $10 million.

President’s Award went to Freshwater Designer Builders for its cool and stylish Earlville home, The Enclave.

Designed for the warm climate, the four-bedroom home has porcelain tiles throughout, large doorways and high ceilings.

The home’s kitchen was also a hit with the judges, earning it the Best Residential Kitchen title.

Master Builders’ Far North Queensland Regional Manager, Sharon Vella, said the calibre of entries in this year’s field was nothing short of exceptional, despite the ongoing trade and materials shortages and price hikes hampering the industry.

"From modern retail spaces, educational amenities and medical facilities to stunning renovations and state-of-the-art home builds, this year's entries were inspirational," she said.

"It's a true testament to the quality and range of building that happens in and around the North Queensland region.

Individuals were also celebrated, with Santa Bir Gurung from Mark Fletcher Solid Plaster and Texture Coatings named Apprentice of the Year.

Briony Twittey from BIMC Constructions took home the Women in Building Award, while Rising Star went to Pelham Collins from Collins Constructions.

Hutchinson Builders, MiHaven and Nathan Verri Masters of Design & Building were also among winners across the 36 categories.
