A teenage boy has died in a single-vehicle crash in Manoora early this morning.

The five other occupants, all teenagers aged between 12 and 15, were taken to Cairns Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say officer sighted an alleged stolen car in Manoora at around 12.50-AM.

The white hatchback was seen several times in the area before the driver allegedly lost control of vehicle at around 1.10-AM while travelling south on Pease Street.

Police say the car travelled across the north bound lanes before crashing into a tree, near Saltwater Creek.

Police and paramedics performed CPR on one of the passengers, a 14-year-old boy, but he was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The 14-year-old male driver was taken to hospital with pelvic injuries in a serious but stable condition.

Another 14-year-old boy sustained chest injuries and was taken to hospital, along with three girls, two aged 15 and the third aged 12.

One girl had neck injuries and was in a serious condition, while the other two are in stable conditions with abdominal, back and head injuries, and an arm injury.

All six teenagers are Cairns locals.

 

Police allege the white hatchback was stolen from a Manunda address sometime after 9-PM on Sunday.  

“Police are appealing for anyone who saw the vehicle, a white 2010 Toyota Yaris hatchback, or has relevant dashcam vision to contact them,” a QPS spokesperson said.

“Police are also appealing to the driver of a blue sedan, which the Yaris overtook on Pease Street at speed at around 1-AM to contact them.

“The blue sedan was travelling southbound over Saltwater Creek Bridge at the time.

“Police are urging the driver to make contact as soon as possible.”

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating with assistance from the Ethical Standards Command.

Pease Street reopened at about 8-AM.
