Cairns will be connected to the rest of the world within weeks – and tickets are already on sale for eager jetsetters.
Singapore Airlines will commence three weekly flights to and from Cairns, with the first touching down on 28 March.
Direct flights from the tropical world city will land on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Australia’s borders reopened to fully vaccinated international tourists on Monday.

Cairns Airport CEO Richard Barker said the tri-weekly service has the capacity to bring 750 global travellers to the region each week.
“No longer are they using their subsidiary Silk Air – we’re going to have the full Singapore Airlines experience,” he said.

“Singapore Airlines has been voted number one airline in the world – it’s internationally recognised for the quality of its service.
“As well as Asia, they have strong connectivity directly into Europe.
“As demand builds we’re looking forward to increasing the frequency of flights.”

Tourism Tropical North Queensland Chair Ken Chapman said Changi Airport also has great connectivity to India.
“UK and Europe are already travelling – they don’t have the restrictions that most of Asia has,” he said.
“We’re already seeing Cairns getting Googled out of the UK and Europe.

It’s anticipated Jetstar flights connecting Cairns to Japan and Bali will also recommence near the end of March.
