A 25-year-old Gordonvale man has tragically died while hiking the popular Walshs Pyramid late Friday afternoon. 

Around 5.30pm yesterday, emergency crews including paramedics, police and the Rescue510 helicopter were called to the walking track in Wooroonooran National Park, 30 kilometres south of Cairns.

Paramedics who assessed the man's critical condition said he was suffering from a medical episode.

“The 25-year-old man was hiking with friends and sadly died due to a medical episode,” a police spokesperson said.  

“The death is not being treated as suspicious.”

The Queensland Fire and Emergency and Service sent six vehicles to the scene to assist paramedics with extrication, a QFES spokesperson confirmed. 

The Far North has been enduring higher than average temperatures this week, with tops of 37° in some areas.

Gordonvale recorded 31° at the time of the incident, with a humidity level of 69 per cent.
