Northern Australia's largest shipping company, Sea Swift, has appointed a new CEO.

Dwyane Freeman, an experienced leader in the marine, transport and supply chain industries, took over the helm this week.

It follows Dr Rochelle Macdonald’s departure in February after a one-year tenure.

Mr Freeman was most recently the Deputy Commissioner – North West and Detention for the Australian Border Force (ABF), which had more than 3,000 employees and contractors and an operating budget of approximately $1 billion.

Prior to that, he was the CEO of Abbot Point Operations for Adani Australia, and has held senior leadership roles in Asciano Ltd, Pacific National, and Toll Holdings.

Sea Swift Chairman Steve Boulton said the appointment of Mr Freeman as CEO of the marine transport company followed an extensive recruitment process.

“This is a key appointment for the business, and we’re excited to have Dwayne on board to further drive the company forward,” Mr Boulton said.

“With Dwayne’s background and experience, we are confident that he, together with our experienced team, will continue to strengthen the company for the benefit of our customers and employees.”

Mr Freeman said he feels privileged to be taking up the role in Cairns and is looking forward to leading the Sea Swift team.

“The future of Sea Swift is exciting, and I’m fully committed to ensuring the ongoing success and sustainability of the business,” he said.

“I have a passion for developing and growing sustainable businesses through engaging and collaborative leadership, working with stakeholders, and developing high-performing teams to deliver shared value.

“I’m also motivated about regional community development, with a focus on contributing to the remote communities in which we operate.

“Over the coming months I’m looking forward to getting to know the Sea Swift team, our customers, and building high-quality relationships with all levels of government, industry, and the community.”

Mr Freeman began his tenure at Sea Swift this week and will be primarily based in the company’s Cairns office.
