Police have charged an Innisfail man with attempted murder

A man will appear in the Innisfail Magistrates Court today charged with attempted murder in relation to an alleged stabbing on Saturday night.

The 32-year-old man went to Innisfail Police Station late that night with a wound to his hand. He was taken to Innisfail Hospital for treatment.

Following investigations, Innisfail police went to a local address where they declared a crime scene just before midnight.

Police said a 23-year-old woman was found at a nearby property with multiple wounds to her upper body.

She was taken to Innisfail Hospital and was later flown to Townsville Hospital for further treatment.

Police will allege a man and woman had been involved in an altercation during which the woman sustained stab wounds before she was able to escape the property.
