Wildlife officers have removed a 4.2 metre saltwater crocodile from the wild at Biboohra, north of Mareeba.

A member of the public used the QWildlife app to report seeing a large crocodile in a waterway at Biboohra.

Wildlife officers confirmed the report and set a baited trap, capturing the crocodile on November 14.

The area is listed as Zone F in the Queensland Crocodile Management Plan, which means it’s an atypical habitat zone for crocodiles.

The Management Plan says Zone F areas are considered low risk because they’re beyond the typical range limit of crocodiles.

All crocodiles found in Zone F areas are targeted for removal.

The Queensland Department of Environment and Science (DES) encourages people to report crocodile sightings through the QWildlife app or by calling 1300 130 372.

DES said people should be crocwise in crocodile country, and to expect crocodiles in all Far North Queensland waterways, even if there is no warning sign.

You should stand back from the water’s edge, and never leave food or bait near the water.

When camping, keep tents and swags at least 50 metres from the edge of the water. Always supervise children near the water and keep pets on a lead.
