A woman was due to appear in court charged with attempted murder over a stabbing on the Cairns Esplanade.
The 20-year-old Cairns North woman was arrested on Wednesday afternoon and was due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court.
Police responded to reports of an assault on The Esplanade around 5.30pm.
They found a 39-year-old woman with a stab wound in her neck.
The woman was rushed to Cairns Hospital in a serious condition.
Police said the two women are known to each other.
