Tropic Weekender: Our guide to the best events and things to do in Cairns

As we continue with the very tropical weather, rain, sun, humidity and all, there are a range of events to get amongst this weekend.

It's arts galore at The Tanks and Botanic Gardens, Cairns Pride Fest is in full swing, JUTE Theatre kicks off their latest show, plus many more performances, films, and music to enjoy.

Thursday 13 October

NOA is hosting Corked x Curry Club Masterclass with Chef Michael. You'll have the opportunity to observe and learn how to make one of his famous curries, while sipping and snacking away on canapés. You'll also get to walk away with a jar of the curry paste, and a recipe card to make you own. 

Sculpture Botanica is also back with displays made primarily of natural materials throughout the gardens. Wander the gardens to discover the Art Trail.

Redlynch State College is having a showcase of their top music, drama, dance, and visual arts students with 'Imagination' - a series of drama sketches, music, and dance routines.

Friday 14 October

Infamous, an adults only circus show, have been in town, but tonight they're having a special charity performance partnering with COUCH.

A range of exhibitions opened last week, with many having their official launch today including Rose Knight - Big Sky Country and Carole King - Rapt In Paper.

Radical Reels returns to Cairns to showcase the most adrenaline-inducing mountain sport films from around the world. Tickets can be purchased online.

I is Maggie begins its week long run at JUTE Theatre. You can purchase your tickets online, and find out more about Maggie's inspiring story.

Cairns Tropical Pride Art Exhibition begins today at the QC Office, showcasing an eclectic range of self-expression and diversity.

Saturday 15 October

The UMI Arts Indigenous Australian Cultural Festival, Big Talk One Fire, is on today at Fogarty Park. It is a free, family friendly event bringing together a concert with headlining and supporting local Indigenous bands, traditional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander dance, and pop-up Indigenous market stalls. 

Cairns Food and Wine Festival also returns with a range of tasting, pairing, and indulging opportunities. 

It's Discover Sailing Day at the Cairns Yacht Club. On the day you'll get the chance to go for a short sail with an experienced sailor, enjoy the club’s facilities, and find out about the sailing courses available.

The Jacaranda Festival is on at Herberton. The day boasts a range of activities for the whole family, including buggy rides, tin panning, market and trade stalls, music, and more - worth the road trip!

Sunday 16 October

Run4Reef, a synchronised race event taking part across 21 cities in Australia and New Zealand is on today. 10% of registration fees go towards the Great Barrier Reef Foundation, WWF Australia & WWF New Zealand, and 5% to local charities.

Cairns State High School is having their performing arts showcase with a range of performances including music, dance, and drama. Tickets can be purchased online.
