Tropic Weekender: Our guide to the best events and things to do in Cairns

There's plenty kicking off around Cairns this week including Crankworx out at Smithfield, Oktoberfest at The German Club, a Retro Pool Party at Riley, and Babinda Harvest Fest is back for another year.

Wednesday 5 October
Internationally renowned Crankworx is hitting Cairns with their Paradise Edition! The festival runs for 5-days straight with a bevy of mountain bike events. There's a range of festival and day passes available so make sure to check out the schedule and get amongst.
Award-winning artist Robert Sherwood Duffield is showcasing his work following four weeks as artist in residence at the Tanks Art Centre and Cairns Botanic Gardens. The exhibition runs through to 7 November.
Thursday 6 October
Slowly Slowly are performing at Edge Hill Tavern with special guests. This is an R18 event, tickets available online.
Friday 7 October
The Cairns Choral Society is putting together a Gala Spectacular for a night of song, music, and dance. Alongside the choir, the evening will include performances from Cairns Brass, FNQ Dance Academy, and Turning Pointe Dance Studio. Tickets can be purchased online.
Black Pride 2022 is back with SLAY Party at Mischief. The night will no doubt entail some seriously good vibes, with DJ's from across Australia setting the mood. Grab your tickets online.
Saturday 8 October
Crystalbrook Riley is hosting a Retro Pool Party bringing those old school Cali vibes to Cairns. The day kicks off from 2pm and will have roving entertainment, DJ Pia Pressure on the decks, retro themed cocktails, and dancers. Dressing to theme is strongly encouraged! Tickets are $25, and include a cocktail on arrival.
Cairns Has Talents launches tonight at The Tanks. The night will consist of performances from a range of artists including dancing, singing, magic, and more.
Flickerfest is thrilled to present a special free community short film screening programme that features highlights from Flickerfest’s Best of Australian shorts programme, award winning Northern Rivers shorts from the Byron All Shorts competition, and a youth music video hot off the press, produced in these recent holidays by local legends @onevisionproductions.
Oktoberfest is in full swing at The German Club for the next three weekends. There will be live Oompah music, plenty of Bavarian food and drinks, dancing, and competitions. Grab your tickets online or at the club.
The Multicultural Comedy Gala is at CPAC Theatre showcasing a range of comedians who touch on their cultural identity and poke fun at what makes us all different yet very much the same.
The Babinda Harvest Festival is back for another year and looking to be bigger and better than ever. The event runs all day with market and food stalls, entertainment for everyone, live performances, plenty of food and drinks options, as well as a street parade and fireworks.

Sunday 9 October
The Dr Edward Koch Foundation’s FNQ Suicide Prevention Taskforce is hosting the All Of Us Festival at Fogarty Park. The day will include a mental health expo, family fun, food trucks, market stalls, and live entertainment. The day hopes to further raise awareness for mental health and wellbeing and coincides with Mental Health Week 8-16 October.
Monday 10 October
Morning Melodies is on with Melissa Western and her world class all-female band pay tribute to the era in music and inspiring trio of pioneering singers Ella Fitzgerald, Etta James and Eartha Kitt.
The Cairns Taipans have a home game against the Perth Wildcats tonight. Tickets can be purchased online.
