The Cairns Botanic Gardens is once again home to a stunning collection of outdoor artworks, with the return of Sculpture Botanica.

Friends of the Cairns Botanic Gardens has teamed up with the Saltwater Creek Basketry Group to present Sculpture Botanica Cairns22.

The event was a popular drawcard in 2016 and 2018, with organisers confident it will attract many visitors through October.

Fifteen works are displayed around the Gardens, forming an art trail for visitors to explore and admire.

The president of Friends of the Cairns Botanic Gardens, Val Schier, said  it has been exciting seeing the event taking shape.

“People love walking the trail, finding the various exhibits, and marvelling at how artists transform natural materials.

“We encourage people to pick up a map from the Visitor Centre, Friends House, Tank sixty-four café, or the Gardens cafe on Collins Avenue, and explore the trail."

The art trail features works from eight commissioned regional artists, and installations made in workshops over the past four months by established and emerging artists, as well as the public.

President of the Saltwater Creek Basketry Group, Pam Kusabs, said visitors can join a photo competition featuring the event.

“We have a photographic competition running for the duration of the exhibition.

“People who use Instagram can upload a photo and be in the running to win a lunch for two at Tank sixty four café.”

The art trail will be open daily from 7am to 5.30pm until October 23.
