A man is being treated in hospital after he was stabbed in the chest with a kitchen knife outside a licensed venue in north Cairns overnight.
Police were called to the scene on Lake Street just before 1am following reports of an altercation between two groups of people who are known to each other.
The 55-year-old Aurukun man was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.

Police said they also found a 36-year-old Gordonvale woman with a stab wound to her hand.
An 18-year-old Aurukun man later found with the woman at Cairns Hospital was taken into custody and is assisting police with their enquiries.
Detective Inspector Kevin Goan said there had been tension between the two groups before.
“The groups were known to each other,” he said.

“There was not any other threat to any other members of the public.
“We’re trying to get to the bottom of it. Some of these people that were there were intoxicated.
“For us to be able to go about our investigation, we need them to be coherent and co-operative.”
Inspector Goan urged witnesses or people with video of the incident to come forward.
“We haven’t got any footage at the minute,” he said.
“Certainly, the network of CCTV that operates within our community is going to be called upon to see how these people come together.”
