A four-year-old cold case involving an alleged kidnapping and armed robbery in Cairns has been revived with local detectives travelling interstate to extradite the suspected offender. 

Cairns detectives yesterday travelled to Orange in NSW to extradite a 42-year-old man in relation to an incident that occurred in Cairns in 2014.

The man has been detained and remanded in custody. Police continue to appeal for information in this cold case as they believe others involved in the incident are still at large.

Meanwhile, Cairns detectives have charged two men aged 25 and 27 with one count each of kidnapping a teenage boy from Redlynch on Sunday night.

Police allege the men from Cooroy and Machans Beach respectively, met the Whitfield boy at a shopping centre on Sunday night before forcing him into a van at knife point around 10PM.

It’s alleged the men, who were known to the boy, punched and threatened the teen before forcing him to drive to a residence in Caravonica. The boy was released approximately 15 minutes after.

Both men were arrested after police stopped the vehicle at about 11.15pm on Brinsmead Kamerunga Road at Lake Placid. The 25-year-old Cooroy man fronted the Cairns Magistrates Court today.

The 27-year-old man is scheduled to appear on July 2nd, and was also charged with one count each of serious assault of a person over 60, wilful damage and stealing following investigations into another incident in Cairns CBD on April 11.
