Mossman murder accused remanded in custody

A 27 year-old man remains behind bars after appearing in the Cairns Magistrates Court charged with the murder of another man near Mossman.

Joshua James Richards was arrested yesterday afternoon.

He’s accused of killing 38 year-old Dennis Beattie, whose remains were discovered on a property at Killaloe, just hours after the victim's Holden Rodeo utility was set on fire on the Mossman-Mount Molloy Road.

A family member had reported Mr Beattie missing last week.

Detectives from the Tablelands, Cairns and Mossman were involved in investigating his disappearance.

Richards has been remanded in custody, with the matter scheduled to return to court on the 19th December.
