Laneway bar Harvest announces major overhaul

Longer opening hours, new Mexican-inspired menu and proper glasses and cutlery - it's all happening at laneway bar Harvest.

One of our favourite food and drink hangouts is about to reinvent itself.

Harvest Bar-b-que, the laneway bar attached to the Paddock Restaurant on Mulgrave Rd, has announced some major changes to its menu, opening hours and dining experience.

And it's also offering an indoor bar and verandah option to keep you dry during the wet season.

From today (Monday 23 January), Harvest will be open from Monday to Saturday from 5pm 'til late, with these new hours also applying to The Paddock.

The bar's disposal cutlery and plastic cups are out, and new glassware for all spirits, beer and cocktails is in.

Which is a very good thing indeed considering Harvest is also introducing a range of new "boozy vintage and classic cocktails" to its drinks menu.

Speaking of menus, there's a major change to what you'll find on your plate from today. The delicious burgers are (unfortunately) gone. But don't fret: there's a whole new Mexican-inspired menu to choose from.

Chef Sarah will serve up her interpretations of tacos, quesadillas, enchiladas and other south of the (American) border treats.

Harvest's Matthew Bonasia has also revealed the team is refurbishing the foyer in The Paddock Bar and the sheltered veranda along the front of the restaurant to cater for any wet season downpours.

"We didn’t know for certain how this type of venue would be received in Cairns or if it was going to be economical in Westcourt," Bonasia wrote on the bar's blog.

"So we dipped our toes in and opened as a pop-up in Mid-2016. The response we received from Cairns locals that flocked to discover the city’s first laneway bar was phenomenal.

"The pop-up is settling in as a Mexican eatery with sustainable and ethical Australian produce. Craft beer, wine and liquor will be served in glassware. Boozy and vintage cocktails will be mixed up. Rain can’t shut us down.

"After a few months of solid trade, we began hypothetical discussions of what we’d do if we were to do it again.
