CAIRNS HOSPITAL COMPUTER SYSTEM COLLAPSE
Cairns Hospital has temporarily reverted to its old way of doing business when it comes to patient records, using paper to track patient progress until it fixes a major software glitch.
The hospital's digital management system shut down yesterday due to problems with security patches that were installed to combat a global ransomware attack. Health Minister Cameron Dick says no patient records were compromised, and the system should be up and running within the next few days.

SCHOOL VANDALS FACE COURT
From Cairns Police: Three men aged 17 have been charged following investigations into break-ins and damage incidents at two local schools earlier this month.
It will be alleged that two of the men forced entry to a shed at a Redlynch college on May 5 and stole two electric powered school maintenance vehicles. Significant damage was done to the shed after one of the vehicles was used to ram through a locked roller door.
The vehicles were then driven from the school grounds before being driven into a creek at the rear of the Redlynch-Intake Road complex and submerged. Both vehicles were damaged as a result of the incidents.
It will be further alleged that the three men forced entry to another college facility at Brinsmead on May 11.
Entry was gained to multiple areas at the Brinsmead Road complex in the early hours of the morning and significant damaged caused to furniture, play equipment and air conditioning equipment. A number of fire extinguishers were also removed from their mounts and the contents discharged within the buildings.
No property was stolen from either of the schools as a result of the incidents.
Cairns uniformed first response officers attended the scene and conducted a protracted investigation into both incidents, which resulted in the arrest and charging of the three men, from Brinsmead and Redlynch this week.
They have each been charged with breaking and entering premises and committing an indictable offence.
Two of the men are scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on May 29 and the third is expected to appear in the same court on June 19.  

GET SET FOR GAMES GALORE
The Great Barrier Reef Masters Games are officially underway, and even if you’re not an athlete, you can still get into the sporty spirit as a spectator.
Today’s highlights include a basketball match between the Konstructacons (including former Tapians members) and the Hasbeens (including Boomers from the late 1990s-early 2000s) at 9.30am, Cairns Basketball Centre, and an exhibition match between Bulls Masters and the Mayor’s XI in Edmonton from 2pm-5pm.
Whatever your political bent, you’ll want to head to Manunda’s Stan Williams Park on Sunday to watch Cairns mayor Bob Manning lead the charge in a rugby league exhibition game. The Mayor’s Meerkats will take on the Canberra Hippos at 2pm, and will be handing out 100 caps to keen kids on the day.
More than 1500 athletes, supporters and Games officials are in Cairns for the event, which features 20 individual and teams sports.

CELEBRATION OF SUSTAINABILITY
Cairns is rolling out the green carpet for this Sunday’s annual ECOfiesta. More than 10,000 visitors are expected for what’s being billed as North Queensland’s premier sustainability event.
Held for the first time on the front lawn of the Cairns Cruise Liner Terminal, ECOfiesta will host more than 120 expo stalls, interactive workshops, roving performes and top-notch entertainment, including the Hot Potato Band and Cairns’ own JJJ star, Greta Stanley.
