Emergency crews attended yet another incident at Babinda Boulders on the weekend, after a young man slipped into a notoriously dangerous section of the creek.

Yesterday afternoon, the Queensland Fire & Emergency Services (QFES), as well as paramedics and police, were alerted to a man stuck in the waterway.

Tropic Now understands the man, aged in his 20s, slipped into the water near the restricted Devil’s Pool area.

“Just after 1.30pm, we received reports of a person washed downstream at Babinda Boulders,” a QFES spokesperson said.

“Five crews were sent to the area.

“We were able to make contact with him and walk him out of the area.”

The Queensland Ambulance Service then transported the man, in a stable condition, to Babinda Hospital.

QFES left the scene shortly before 3pm.

It comes just six weeks after the death of 19-year-old Edmonton woman, Chloe Bailey, who slipped into the Devil’s Pool area and failed to resurface.

Following the tragedy – the 20th drowning in the area since records began in 1959 – Cairns Regional Council launched another probe into preventing further incidents.

Division five councillor Brett Moller has set in motion a safety audit, with patrolling compliance officers and an educational campaign on the cards to keep visitors out of restricted areas.

It is one of many assessments over the site’s treacherous history, which also claimed two lives in 2020.

The most recent was completed in December last year, finding that all tracks, fencing, structures and facilities were adequate.

Mr Moller’s joint motion with Mayor Bob Manning passed unanimously.

A report is due back to the council by April this year.
