Cairns set to get its own brewery with big Hemingways expansion

Port Douglas craft brewer Hemingways is expanding its line of beers into a massive space at the Cairns Cruise Liner Terminal.

Cairns beer lovers will soon be able to sample up to 12 local brews in a massive development by Hemingway's Brewery at the Cruise Liner Terminal.

An estimated 100 jobs will be created when the Port Douglas-based brewer opens its combined pub, restaurant and brewery in Shed 2 of the waterfront facility.

Between 10 and 12 styles of beer will be on offer in the 1400 sq/m space, which will include a 19-metre long bar, commercial kitchen and eight 7000-litre fermentation tanks.

Hemingway's co-owner Tony Fyfe told TropicNow he hopes the new brewery is open by the end of this year, with construction due to start in March.

The owners had been negotiating the 10-year lease with Ports North for months before signing a deal late last year.

The city has been without a local beer maker since Blue Sky Brewery closed its doors in 2014.
