Award-winning Cairns tour operator joins TEQ Board

Co-founder of award-winning Cairns company Down Under Tours and “passionate advocate” of Queensland tourism James Dixon has been named as the newest member of the Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ) Board.

The state’s lead marketing, destination and experience development and major events agency, TEQ aims at building Queensland’s tourism and events industry to foster innovation, drive industry growth and boost visitor expenditure.

In announcing the appointment, Tourism and Major Events Minister Kate Jones said that Mr Dixon would bring a wealth of experience to the board.

“With more than 27 years in the industry, he’s got all the right credentials for the role,” she said.

“His knowledge and experience will provide a valuable perspective, especially at a time when there’s great opportunity for the tourism industry in Cairns and Tropical North Queensland.”

He also served on the board of the Australian Tourism Export Council.

Mr Dixon said it was a “great honour” to be appointed to the TEQ board.

“I know this industry is the lifeblood of many regional communities such as my own,” he said.

“I am committed to progressing initiatives that will make a difference and help drive future growth.”

TEQ Chair Bob East welcomed Mr Dixon’s appointment to the TEQ Board.

“I know James is incredibly passionate about our industry and we welcome his appointment at a time of strategic importance as we target growth market opportunities in a highly competitive consumer environment,” he said.

“His extensive background in trade engagement and international and domestic marketing, as well as his in-depth knowledge of the Tropical North Queensland operating environment, will ensure he makes a valuable contribution.”
